Toronto Garbage Strike Solution.

July 10th, 2009 // 2:39 pm @

So I came back from Chicago this afternoon and had a lengthy conversation with a potential client.  Since we are both in Toronto, he had mentioned that he had the perfect solution to this garbage strike.

This is a bit comical, but goes without saying that the public is certainly NOT on the unions side on this one..

Frankly, I am in the opinion that unions served their purpose in the 30′s, 40′s & maybe 50′s but as far as I am concerned should be abolished.  Did you know that roughly 10% of full time employees actually belong to a union.

Have you ever wondered why is it that when a union goes on strike it affects everyone??

Anyway back to the solution..

If you live in Toronto and you think this solution will work, please do not hesitate to spread the word. :-)

Let’s all find out who belongs to the union, which employees are on strike.. go ahead and put down their name & address in a comment below and the ones who can.. simply DROP OFF your garbage at that address… that will put them back to work…  :-)

Ridiculous that at this strike is in the 3rd week already…  and Toronto has been on touted as a stinky city on CNN…

Social Marketing is all about building influence.

June 23rd, 2009 // 8:51 pm @

The idea of social media is to have like minded people connect to each other through respectful dialogue..

Like they have said for years (although I am not sure who they are?);

“People do not like to be sold to, but they DO like to buy..”

Social Marketing is about building influence and in order to have influence, readers or followers need to trust you.  To succeed with social marketing you need to create a complelling story about yourself, create a story within your niche, become that authority.

Warm up, break the ice; provide content that is useful for the type of people you want reading, listening and at the end of the day; Buying from you.

Do you go for the jugular at a dinner party? If so, get rid of that sales book — It’s old…

It just seems that most people plug shamelessly without any thought to who is following on twitter or reading their blog.

Word of Mouth Advertising is the best kind of Advertising…  We can all agree on that…

So let me ask you a question.

What do you think others are thinking about you?

Accountability Through Pay Per Performance Marketing

June 18th, 2009 // 8:40 pm @

I had a BAAADDDDDD DAAAYYYYY… :-)

This morning I had the pleasure of sitting in on a conference call with a company (I won’t mention any names cause this ad agency knows who they are) that has subcontracted myself to actas their Internet marketing expert. The conference call was in regards to helping their potential customer to initiate post click marketingtesting in order to facilitate higher conversion rates for a specific campaign.

The contractor initiated a conversation about their solution for conversion optimization services. I proceeded to ask the end customer the who, what, when, where & how of the campaign and what are they currently doing to track results. I was rudely interrupted by the contractor (I won’t mention any name, although I want to) who proceeded to talk about their solution.

I found it amazing that a “so called” professional service firm can talk about a solution to problem they just don’t understand. It wasn’t the first time I had this type of conversation with this contractor; BUT IT IS THE LAST as I savoured the contract.

In today’s Internet environments there are certainly no shortage of companies that talk the talk but cannot or will not walk the walk. It is amazing how many companies simply do not drink their own Kool-aid.

Frankly, the Internet is such a perfect medium for tracking; I find it very hard to believe that there are not many more companies that are accountable for their services through pay per performance initiatives like our firm is.

eh contractor; if you are reading this good luck to you. I cannot be involved with someone that will fail even before they begin…..

Has anyone else experienced this or does anyone know of other firms that are willing to put up or shut up?
